Moronic takes its inspiration from the writings of the 3rd Century Christian martyr,
Perpetua, and the visions she experienced days before her death. The title of the piece is taken from the writing of St. Paul in his first letter to the Corinthians. He states: “For the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength.” The word “foolishness” here is the English translation of a Greek word more literally translated as “moronic-ness.” The piece is a musical exploration of Perpetuaʼs narrative in relation to this Pauline concept.
